Responding to Active Shooter Situations

*This is a two part class. Part one will take place on March 6th and part 2 will take place on March 20th.
*First Aid Trauma classes will be on Jan. 25th or March 15th and must be registered for separately.
**Participants must have completed our Handgun 1-5 series, participated in our Competitive Shooting League, or have similar training to include: shooting on the move, shooting at moving targets, barricaded and postional shooting, and mastery of firearm handling and fundamentals. If you haven’t participated in training at Sim Trainer, you will be required to complete a 50-round evaluation. This will be accomplished by competing in our Tuesday/Wednesday league at least once before the first scheduled class.
**If you have previously taken a First Aid Trauma class you are NOT required to retake the class to participate.
As a result of national events, continuous requests from members, students who have taken our courses, and safety conscious decision makers at churches, civic organizations, elderly care facilities, schools and area businesses, we are now offering this intensive 11 hour course. Out of necessity, organizations can no longer only implement non-firearm protocols to deal with such horrifying and deadly incidents. The need for ready, willing, capable and well trained armed personnel who are on scene and who move to the call of gunfire with the goal of bringing the incident to a successful resolution is the RESPONSIBLE AND PROVEN MOST EFFECTIVE RESPONSE to such situations.
This course will prepare those responsible for protecting individuals in any facility to bring such incidents to successful resolution. Emphasis is on mental preparation for responding to such incidents and advocates an aggressive response protocol in addition to providing participants with real-world firearms and armed response skills to successfully resolve such incidents.
Training blocks include:
- Review of trends in active killer incidents around the country over past 50 years
- Legal aspects of the use of deadly force
- Mental preparation for confrontation
- Experiencing and Managing fear and stress in deadly encounters
- The Sheepdog mentality and related issues
- Coordinated aggressive response utilizing the “move to the call of gunfire” concept
- Acceptable outcomes
Must show previous training, understanding and demonstration of:
- Mastery of firearms handling and shooting fundamentals
- Positional and barricade shooting
- Shooting on the move and at moving targets
You will practice those skills and learn these:
- Extended range shooting with a handgun
- Shooting in crowded environments
- Split second instinctive point shooting vs. Precision Aimed Fire
- Shoot/Don’t shoot decision making using realistic targets
Class will be broken into three components:
- Intro to the concepts and practice drills (4 hours, ~100-150 rounds)
2. Trauma medicine class (4 hours, classroom only) You must register for this class separately. - Practice drills with medical and scene management components. (4 hours, ~100-150 rounds)

Participants will need electronic ear and eye protection, firearm, holster, mag pouch, at least three magazines/speed strips, and 250 rounds of specialty Cleanfire ammo. Participants should also wear and/or bring clothing similar to what they wear when serving in a defensive/protective capacity.

Cancellation Policy
SimTrainer will not issue refunds for any training course registrations. Registrants will be permitted to reschedule to a future course provided they give at least 48 hour notice AND pay a $25 rescheduling fee.
